The challenge

Masjid Al-Hikmah serves a busy community in Upton Park, East London — prayer times change daily, announcements need to go out quickly, and donations are central to keeping the masjid running. The old setup couldn’t keep up: salah times were hard to find on mobile, content updates needed a developer, and fundraising relied on generic tools that couldn’t handle campaigns, recurring gifts, or the volume of giving the community was capable of.

What we built

An Astro site with Tailwind CSS, powered by Payload CMS so the masjid team can publish news, update hero slides, and manage announcements without touching code. Prayer times sit in the header on every page — full timetable on desktop, a compact card on mobile with the next jama’ah highlighted. News, construction progress, services, and quick links are all structured for visitors who need answers fast.

The donation platform

At the centre of the project is a custom donation system built for how masjids actually fundraise — not a generic embed dropped onto a page.

The committee can create campaigns for specific causes: construction milestones, Ramadan appeals, daily giving drives, and one-off community projects. Each campaign has its own messaging, preset amounts, and dedicated landing page. Supporters can give one-off or set up recurring monthly gifts, enter custom amounts, and choose where their contribution goes — all without leaving the masjid’s website.

A persistent donation bar on the homepage makes giving immediate, while deeper campaign pages handle larger appeals with room for progress updates and rich content managed through the CMS.

The results speak for themselves: the platform helped Masjid Al-Hikmah raise over £300,000 in 2026, giving the team a reliable digital channel alongside in-person collections.

The result

A modern community hub that works on the phone in someone’s pocket before Jummah. The masjid can rotate announcements, promote Ramadan and Eid schedules, launch new fundraising campaigns in minutes, and take secure payments from anywhere — while the site stays fast behind Cloudflare and easy for staff to maintain long after launch.
